Eric Berry and Cam Newton rekindle a rivalry that started back in middle school (AUDIO)

November 11, 2016 By Bill Pollock

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton remembers the first time he saw Eric Berry.  Both of them were in middle school.  Both grew up in South Fulton, just outside of Atlanta and Newton called Berry the best athlete in town.  When it came to quarterbacks, Newton said he was better by the time to two played for rival high schools.

Cam Newton reflects on growing up against Berry.

“I couldn’t spin it like him,” Berry said of Cam’s throwing ability, “but I could get the ball there on time. You know what I’m saying? I did a bit more running.”

This Sunday, both players will be back on the field facing each other.  This time, Berry will be responsible for trying to slow down Cam and Carolina’s offense.  Chiefs linebacker Dee Ford, a teammates of Cam’s at Auburn, will be in charged of trying to put pressure on the QB as the Chiefs look to slow up the Panthers with their 3-4 defense.   Ford, now in his third season with Chiefs, is coming into his own with nine sacks on the year.

Head coach Andy Reid talks about the transformation of Ford.
