Artemi Panarin scored 25 seconds into overtime, leading the Blackhawks to a 2-1 win over the Blues on Wednesday night at Scottrade Center. It was Chicago’s seventh straight win. The game winner came on a powerplay after Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo flipped a puck out of play drawing a late delay of game penalty towards the end of regulation.
Pietrangelo took the penalty just 35 seconds after his goal tied the game with 2:11 remaining to give the Blues at least one point.
“We’re taking way too many penalties when the game is on the line,” coach Ken Hitchcock said.
Chicago’s Corey Crawford stopped 27 shots. Jake Allen of the Blues made 28 saves, but never even saw the wrister from Panarin that ended the game.
“I just heard it hit the net,” Allen said. “It was a tough way to go.” He has lost three of his last four and fell to 5-4-2 on the season.
Through 14 games, Chicago leads the Central with 21 points, at 10-3-1 and have a four point advantage over the Blues who are now 7-4-3.
