The clerk in southwest Missouri’s Greene County says there have been no issues with deputies that are stationed at polling places.
Republican Shane Schoeller, who is a former Missouri House Speaker Pro Tem, says he requested the deputies, after election judges expressed safety concerns. Schoeller tells Missourinet there have been no issues with the deputies. The Greene County Democratic Party expressed concerns with the placement of deputies inside polling places.
Meantime, long lines are the norm for Missouri voters on this Election Day.
The “Kansas City Star” reports there is a three-hour wait for voters at the Northland Cathedral Church in Kansas City, North. Five precincts vote at the church, and only five voting booths are available.
There is heavy voter turnout in mid-Missouri’s Boone County, as well. Veteran County Clerk Wendy Noren reports 47,000 people had already voted, as of early afternoon.
In eastern Missouri, the “St. Louis Post-Dispatch” reports there are heavy lines at polling places. And in northwest Missouri’s Buchanan County, Missourinet affiliate KFEQ Radio reports more than 15,000 voters had cast ballots, as of 11 a.m. Buchanan County Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey tells KFEQ she’s predicting an 80 percent voter turnout.
In southwest Missouri’s Greene County, Clerk Schoeller is forecasting a 65 percent voter turnout. Greene County includes the major population center in Springfield.
