Northwest Missouri State sets school record among statewide highlights in Division II football

November 6, 2016 By Bill Pollock

Defending national champion and the number one ranked Northwest Missouri State Bearcats won their school record 25th straight game, 28-7 over Ft. Hays State.  NW QB Kyle Zimmerman threw his first two interceptions of the season and suffered a broken nose.

22nd ranked Southwest Baptist University picked up a 54-34 victory over Central State. With the win, SBU improves to 9-1 (6-1 GLVC) improving on their record number of wins in program history. Bubba Jenkins (Parkview HS, Springfield) also broke the SBU single season rushing record, as he now stands at 1,411 rushing yards on the season, while T.J Edwards tied the SBU single season passing touchdown record with 31.

Truman State grabbed a share of a Great Lakes Valley Conference title with a dominating second half performance and a 23-3 victory over Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) College on Saturday afternoon.

Truman can win the Great Lakes Valley Conference outright next week in the regular season finale at McKendree. The Bulldogs are the only undefeated team in the GLVC at 7-0 while Southwest Baptist has their finale at home against Lincoln. It is the first time since 1988 that Truman has earned a share of a regular season conference championship.
