The Lancers of Lafayette High School in Wildwood had their backs against the wall after falling behind one-set to none in the Class 4 state title match against Francis Howell in Cape Girardeau.  After losing 20-25, the Lancers rebounded with wins of 27-25 and 25-21 to top the Vikings and pick up their state record sixth straight championship.  Lafayette beat Howell 25-20, 25-11 in pool play on Friday.

Lafayette finished the season (31-6) and capped off an amazing run that began in 2011, racking up over 170 wins during that stretch.  The Six-Peat passes the MSHSAA record of five in a row set by Incarnate Word Academy from 1983-87, which Lafayette tied last season.

Lafayette coach Zach Young has guided the team to five of the titles.

Elsewhere–Lutheran South beat Pleasant Hill 25-23, 25-21 in the Class 3 championship match.  Also named the Lancers, Lutheran South won their first championship in their fifth final four appearance.

St Pius-X/Festus beat Hermann for the Class 2 title and Northland Christian topped Valle Catholic 2-0 for the Class 1 championship.
