Former New York Jets player who was paralyzed in Chiefs game in ’92 dies in car wreck (VIDEO)

October 15, 2016 By Bill Pollock

Former New York Jets defensive lineman Dennis Byrd died in a car accident in Oklahoma.  He was 50.  Byrd is remembered in NFL circles as the player who was paralyzed after running into his own player in a game against the Chiefs in November of 1992.  Shortly after doctors told him he would never walk again, he proved them wrong.

According to NFL.com, Byrd was involved in a two-car collision.  A 17-year-old driver came into the oncoming lane, striking the vehicle driven by Byrd, who was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive injuries.
