Truman State trips up nationally ranked SBU for Great Lakes lead

October 9, 2016 By Bill Pollock

The 20th ranked SBU Football team couldn’t complete a fourth quarter comeback against Truman State on Saturday afternoon, as they fell 26-16. With the loss SBU drops to 5-1 (3-1 GLVC) on the season.

The SBU offense struggled to get things going in the first half, as Truman built up a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and a 23-0 lead at the half.

Sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference belongs to the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs snapped SBU’s seven-game winning streak and also halted running back Bubba Jenkins’ personal eight game streak of 100 or more yards rushing. Truman held Jenkins to a season-low 69 yards on 23 carries as the GLVC leading rusher came in averaging over 139 yards per game.

The Bulldogs will play outside of the conference next week but will face their biggest test of the season. Truman will travel to #2 Grand Valley (Mich.) for a battle with the Lakers in Allendale next Saturday at 4 p.m. (EDT).

SBU will return to action on Saturday, October 15 when they travel to William Jewell. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. from Liberty, Missouri.
