Billy Burns hit a sacrifice fly to score Raul Mondesi in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Royals topped the Minnesota Twins, 4-3, on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.
The Royals’ elimination number for the American League Wild Card remained at 1.
Mondesi drew a walk off Twins reliever Tommy Milone and then stole second, and went to third on a sacrifice bunt. The Twins walked Whit Merrifield and Eric Hosmer, loading the bases with one out, but Burns delivered his first RBI for the Royals with a fly ball to center.
Alcides Escobar hit his sixth homer of the year, and first since Aug. 2, a blast that went 448 feet. Eric Hosmer drove in his 101st RBI of the season.
