A father and daughter from Des Moines have been killed in a single engine plane crash in the Kansas City suburb of Lee’s Summit. Lee’s Summit Police Department Sergeant Chris Depue tells Missourinet that Federal authorities are trying to determine what led to the Tuesday crash that killed 53-year-old Vincent Basile and 24-year-old Kelli Basile.

“The plane came to rest on the far west side of the tarmac or ramp area. It impacted to the south and then kind of skidded on its nose for about 100 yards and came to rest where it ended up,” says Depue.

He says the victims were traveling to Missouri to visit family.

“People on the scene attempted to give aid to those folks. They pulled them from the wreckage of the aircraft and attempted to render aid. Unfortunately, both persons on board the aircraft were killed,” says Depue.

The airport remains open for operations. The runways were not damaged by the crash.
