Jung Ho Kang’s solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning pushed the Pirates past the Cardinals, 4-3, at PNC Park. Alex Reyes took the loss for St. Louis, the first of his major league career. Randal Grichuk had two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals, who fall into a tie with New York for the second spot in the Wild Card.  Both teams remain a half game behind San Francisco for home field advantage in the one-game playoff.

Also, the Cardinals 25-game homer streak ended.  Over that stretch, the Cardinals went 14-11.

The Giants had the best record in the majors at the All-Star break at 57-33, three games up on the Cubs. Last night they blew a 5-3 lead in the ninth inning in Colorado and now the Giants are 17-32 since the break, the worst record in the majors.
