Renovations have been taking place throughout the summer to move media from the chamber floor, down by senators, to a balcony one floor up. Senate Communications spokesperson Lauren Hieger tells Missourinet that press will get to break in its new location during the veto session.
Senators voted during the opening day of this year’s regular legislative session to move the press from the place they have been for years. Four Democrats voted against the move.
Senate President Ron Richard (R-Joplin) initially stated that the table where media sits is needed for staff, but he later said it was because a reporter tweeted last year about a private conversation senators were having.
A request for the cost of the renovations has not been returned. The legislature’s veto session begins September 14th.
