St. Louis native and former Missouri State Bears left handed pitcher Ross Detwiler remains winless against the Redbirds.  Detwiler (1-3) gave up three runs and six hits while striking out six in 5 1/3 innings as the Oakland A’s were beat the Cardinals 3-1 on Friday night at Busch Stadium.  Detwiler fell into an early hole and his offense couldn’t rally against Luke Weaver, who picked up his first major league win.

Detwiler gave up a two-run homer to Jedd Gyorko, traveling 423-feet in the first.  The homer extended the Cardinals’ home run streak to 15 games, the longest active streak in the majors, and made it 2-0, two batters into the game.

Weaver (1-1) gave up one run on  four hits in a career-high six innings in his home debut for the Cardinals. Five of his seven strikeouts were looking. Yonder Alonso’s solo homer in the second inning was the A’s only run.
