Royals miss opportunities to get to Fernandez

August 25, 2016 By Bill Pollock

Jose Fernandez pitched seven shutout innings to lead the Marlins to a 3-0 win over the Royals at Marlins Park. Miami scored three runs in the sixth, thanks in part to a two-run single from Christian Yelich. Alcides Escobar had two hits for Kansas City, while Dillon Gee fell to 5-and-7.

The Royals were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position as their nine-game win streak came to an end.

The Royals loaded the bases against Fernandez in the second inning on two singles and an error, but they failed to score.  The Royals also had two runners on in the first and sixth innings each and failed to score.

The Royals wrap up their three-game series with the Marlins tonight in Miami. Edinson Volquez will go after his 10th win of the season for KC, while the Fish start 9-and-8 Tom Koehler.

First pitch is at 6:10 p.m. The Royals are five games out of the second AL wild card spot.
