Jay Ashcroft maintained a comfortable lead over Lee’s Summit Senator Will Kraus throughout Tuesday’s primary election, to clinch the GOP nomination for Secretary of State.

About 61% of voters chose Ashcroft, while Kraus took about 36% of the vote. Roi Chinn trailed far behind with about 4%.

Ashcroft will take on Democrat and former St. Louis television news anchor Robin Smith in November’s general election. Smith defeated both Bill Clinton Young and MD Rabbi Alam by a wide margin to secure the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State.

Secretary of State Jason Kander is seeking Republican incumbent U.S. Senator Roy Blunt’s seat.
