Royals drop to a season-low three games under .500 in blow out loss

July 27, 2016 By Bill Pollock

The Royals have dropped six of seven to fall three games below .500 for the first time this season.  Tyler Skaggs, 24-year old pitching for the first time since August of 2014 went seven innings and Yunel Escobar went 5 for 5 to help the Angels pound Kansas City 13-0 on Tuesday night.

Royals starter Dillon Gee (3-4) was charged with five runs and ten hits in five-plus innings.

The Angels sent 13 men to the plate in a seven-run ninth. Backup catcher Drew Butera got the final out in his second pitching appearance of the season.

“Anytime I have to come in and pitch, it’s never a fun time,” Butera said.

Raul Mondesi, who turns 21 today, made his debut and went 0-for-3.  He drove a ball deep to center against Skaggs in the third when the game was still 1-0.
