Southeast Missouri Congressman Jason Smith says he met one-on-one last week in Washington with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Smith, one of the nation’s youngest Congressmen, says Trump will work to make sure there’s a bright future for the next generation.

“I was quite impressed. He (Trump) had an amazing demeanor, definitely not the same person you see on television. I think he’s going to be exactly what we need to help lead our country out of the mess we’re in right now,” says Smith. “We need a government that’s smaller, more efficient and one that allows us to have the same opportunities that our parents had. That’s the vision I bring forward with him and I believe the best way to have that is through a Trump administration in this election.”

Smith describes Trump as an outsider and says changes are needed in Washington.

“I think that he brings the right approach that can actually help cut regulations to reduce the tax code and help grow the economy that everyday Americans are going to have a good paying job and they don’t have to live from paycheck to paycheck,” says Smith.

Smith will be a delegate at this week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland. The 36-year-old will address millennials and rural audiences at the convention.
