The 2016 Missouri Junior Amateur Championship, hosted by the Missouri Junior Golf Foundation, battled two delays lasting over two hours, but courses at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville withstood the summer storms and play began again at 10:45. Five boys ages 12-13 competed on the Outlaw Course at 5,379 yards. After the completion of play, Grant Beichley and Eddie Fromm share the lead at 80. Brooks Baldwin of Warrensburg is just six back.

Girls ages 14-15 took on the Posse course at 5,461 yards. Taryn Bell, Jackson, fired a 78 to maintain the overnight lead. Megan Propeck, Leawood, is just one back after a round of 79.

In the girl’s 16-18 field, Allison Bray of Cape Girardeau sits atop the leaderboard after shooting a round of 73. Bray shot a one under 35 on the back side. Emma Solovic and India Gaume are both four back after shooting rounds of 77.

The 14-15 boy’s also played the Posse course, but further back at 6,583 yards. Ross Steelman is the co-leader after round one. Steelman shot the low round of the day to that point with a 74; in a round that featured both a quadruple bogey and an eagle. Dawson Meek, Ozark, shares the lead at 74. Will Harding and Hank Lierz are just two back.

With a majority of boys 16-18 teeing off after the morning delays, just over half of the field finished their first round. Bennett Tiedenbrunn, Sullivan, shot a two-under round of 70. This was the only round turned in under par through this point in the competition. Bennett’s round included five birdies. Frankie Thomas, St. Louis, is just two back of Tiedenbrunn after an even par round of 72. Ryan Bender, Tony Brandt, and Nick Westrich follow closely behind after each firing rounds of 74.
