Alcides Escobar gave the Royals their first lead with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly and then in the 12th, hit a go-ahead RBI double down the right field line off Seth Maness (0-2) for a 3-2 win over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Wednesday night.

Whit Merrifield put the Royals ahead for the second time in the 10th on an by second baseman Matt Carpenter.  Merrifield got credit for an RBI for a 2-1 lead, but the Cardinals rallied again.

Jhonny Peralta’s two-out single tied it at in the ninth at 1-1 against Wade Davis, who blew just his second save in 20 chances.  In the 10th, Stephen Piscotty homered off Joakim Soria to tie the game at 2-2.

Piscotty twisted his ankle on Escobar’s go-ahead hit and his status for the series finale is up in the air.

The Cardinals have the third worst home record in the National League and the Royals have the worst road record in the American League, yet K.C. scraped out the victory.

Both teams got great starting pitching.  Edinson Volquez went 6 2/3 innings of six-hit ball and Carlos Martinez allowed eight hits in six-plus scoreless innings.
