U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) doesn’t think VA Secretary Robert McDonald should resign, but she calls what he said “stupid.” He compared veteran health care wait times to the lines at Disney theme parks.

“What he was really saying is we need to be asking veterans how their care is, not just how long they’re waiting for an appointment,” said McCaskill. “That was the message behind his comment, but that got lost in the ‘let’s grab another scalp’”.

Her colleague, Senator Roy Blunt (R-Missouri), has called for McDonald’s resignation.

“I think what he (McDonald) said was stupid. He wasn’t thinking it through, but as I gently reminded Senator Blunt, seems to me that his candidate for President has a penchant for saying things wrong sometimes and everybody seems to forgive him,” said McCaskill.

McCaskill made the comments after a symposium at Columbia’s Battle High School.
