Carlos Martinez finished off a rough month of May on a strong note, tossing eight shutout innings as the Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-0, Monday afternoon at Miller Park.  Martinez allowed five singles and walked one. Trevor Rosenthal pitched the ninth to finish off the five-hitter.  Matt Carpenter sparked the offense with four hits.

Martinez gave up no runs after allowing 19 over his last five starts, which were all Cardinals’ losses.

Carpenter went 4-for-5 from the leadoff position as the first four Cardinals hitters did all the damage, registering 10 of the team’s 12 hits.  Matt Holliday drove in three runs and also homered in the seventh.
