Mike Leake on his loss and hanging pitches “If you take those back, it’s a zero-run ballgame.”

May 27, 2016 By Bill Pollock

Mike Leake gave up home runs to slumping Bryce Harper and light hitting Danny Espinosa as a one-run lead turned into a 2-1 loss for the Cardinals against the Nationals,s Thursday night in Washington.

“Hanging changeup and a hanging slider, right where hitters want the ball,” Leake said. “If you take those back, it’s a zero-run ballgame.

The Cardinals were without Matt Carpenter, who was placed on the paternity list earlier Thursday. He leads the club with nine homers and 32 RBI.

Aledmys Diaz homered in the fourth off Joe Ross, who has just two wins since April 30th–both against the Cardinals.

St Louis is 0-4 vs. Washington this season.
