Michael Wacha (2-5) allowed eight runs on eight hits and four walks in four innings in a 12-3 loss Tuesday against the Cubs.
Wacha’s ERA has jumped from 2.65 to 5.04 during the month of May.
Wacha insists he’s not hurt and for the time being, Mike Matheny has no plans of taking him out of the rotation.
“I feel like I’m on time for an inning, two innings, then something gets out of whack. I don’t know if I’m trying too hard. I’ve got to continue to work,” said Wacha. “I feel strong. I feel good. The arm feels great. The body feels good.”
Is Wacha washed up? Is he just a flash in the pan, who took the majors by storm only to have hitters figure him out to the point he’s pressing to be too fine?
Wacha (2-5) lost his fifth consecutive decision and has given up six or more runs in his third consecutive start.
