Adam Kennedy gave up seven runs on five hits in 6.1 innings, with five of those runs coming via the long ball. Starlin Castro homered in the first, Chase Headley in the second and Didi Gregorius in the fourth as the New York Yankees beat the Royals 7-3. Kansas City lost three out of four in the Bronx and have now dropped 12 of their last 16.
Alex Gordon homered off New York starter Nathan Eovaldi for his fourth homer of the season, going 422 feets. Gordon also delivered an RBI single in the fifth that brought the Royals within 5-3. Salvador Perez came up next and nearly gave the Royals the lead, for what would have been a three-run homer, but Carlos Beltran caught it at the wall.
After a 2-5 road trip, the Royals are ready to get home to face the struggling Atlanta Braves.
“I’ll just be happy to get home. It seems like we haven’t been home in a year. We have a real comfort level there and enjoy playing at home,” Royals manager Ned Yost said.
