Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer and Lorenzo Cain hit a two-run single as the Royals beat the Yankees, 7-3 Wednesday night.  The Royals scored four runs in the first inning and Yordano Ventura pitched himself back in the win column.

Cain’s single gave the Royals their first hit with the bases loaded this season. His single up the middle in the sixth gave K.C. a three-run lead at that point.

“He pitched great,” Royals manager Ned Yost said of Ventura. “He had a good curveball and threw it effectively and used it for strikes.

Kris Medlen will be examined Thursday after complaining of shoulder soreness in his last start. Medlen’s ERA is 7.77 after he gave up a career-high nine runs, six earned in his previous start at home against the Nationals, then gave up four runs in two innings against the Yankee on Tuesday.
