Matt Carpenter homered twice, Randal Grichuk and Matt Holliday also homered and the Cardinals beat the L.A. Angels 8-1.

The Cardinals nearly matched their season high for extra-base hits, and it was plenty for Mike Leake to get his first win.

Leake (1-3) took a shutout into the eighth inning.   He allowed six hits and one run in eight innings overall.

“It feels pretty good to get that first win,” said Leake, who signed an $80 million, five-year contract in the offseason.
