Carlos Martinez struggled and Jung Ho Kang had a big return as the St. Louis Cardinals dropped the series opener with the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday night 4-2.

Cards starter Martinez took the loss, leaving the game with one out in the fourth due to fatigue. Tyler Lyons came on to strike out 7 over 3 2/3 innings of work.

Kang homered twice as he was playing in his first game since suffering a knee injury last September.

Randal Grichuk scored from second on a Liriano wild pitch and Aledmys Diaz scored on a sacrifice fly in the seventh for the Cardinals runs.
