Wainwright better, but Cardinals bats go quiet in loss to San Diego

Adam WainwrightAdam Wainwright gave up three runs over six innings but the Cardinals offense could only manage a Randall Grichuk solo homer in a 4-1 loss in San Diego Friday night.

Wil Myers had a solo homer among his three hits and drove in three runs, and Andrew Cashner threw six strong innings to lead the Padres.

Wainwright dropped to 0-3 allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings while striking out two.

The Cardinals offense could only manage one hit in the first three innings. St. Louis did have a chance to close within one run in the seventh but Kolton Wong, aboard on a leadoff single, was thrown out trying to score on Ruben Tejada’s double to right.
