Kyle Buckles with Missouri Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler’s office says this was after an active shooter drill was conducted this morning at the Capitol, so when the actual shooting occurred some people were confused.

“Some people dismissed this as the drill itself and turns out that it definitely was not,” said Buckles. “Yet another reason that everyone needs to be as vigilant as possible all the time.”

The Capitol complex was locked down for nearly an hour after the incident, CNN reports.

Several members of Missouri’s Congressional Delegation have said on social media they and their staff members are alright.
