In the final game of the regular season, Mizzou Women’s Basketball (21-8, 8-8) fell to the Vanderbilt (16-13, 5-11) 56-52 on Sunday afternoon. Sophie Cunningham and Cierra Porter  led the Tigers with 11 points each.

It was a back-and-forth contest through the second quarter with five lead changes. Lindsey Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) drained two 3-point baskets, but Vandy held a 33-28 edge at halftime. The game remained close through the third quarter as both teams put up 11 points.  Mizzou would overtake the Commodores midway through the quarter but the lead would get away.

Mizzou shot 43 percent (19-for-44) from the field, 27 percent (6-for-22) from beyond the arc and 80 percent (8-for-10) from the free throw line. Vanderbilt shot 46 (21-for-45) percent from the floor, 47 (9-for-19) percent from three-point range and 71 percent (5-for-7) from the foul line. The Tigers outrebounded the Commodores 29-23 and dished out 13 assists as a team.

The Tigers begin postseason play on Thursday at the SEC Tournament in Jacksonville, Florida. No. 8 seed Mizzou plays No. 9 seed Auburn at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday at Veterans Memorial Arena.
