A Missouri senator has caught arguably the biggest spotted sucker ever hauled in, in Missouri, but you won’t be seeing his name in any record books.

Missouri’s record for a spotted sucker fish is 3 lb. 11 oz. Senator Dave Schatz (R-Sullivan) caught one in a local stream that was reportedly at least 5 lb.

Senator Jay Wasson (R-Nixa) called attention to the catch.

“He didn’t keep it. We ate it that night,” said Wasson. “So, I would just like the body to know that the world record spotted sucker tasted pretty good at the Senator’s fish fry.”

Since Schatz’s fish wasn’t weighed on an official department scale, Schatz was given a mock award by the Department of Conservation.
