Starting pitcher Mike Leake is in St. Louis for a physical and the Cardinals are planning a 2 p.m. CT news conference on Tuesday to announce his signing. According to a report from FOX Sports, the contract is for $80 million over five years with a mutual option that could increase the value of the deal to $94 million.
Over a six-year career, Leake, 28, is 64-52 with a 3.88 ERA, with half of his starts coming in the cozy confines for Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
In 30 starts between Cincinnati and San Francisco last season, he went 11-10 with a 3.70 ERA.
With John Lackey off to Chicago and Lance Lynn lost for the year, Leake will join Adam Wainwright, Michael Wacha, Jaime Garcia and Carlos Martinez in the rotation with Marco Gonzales,Tim Cooney and Tyler Lyons for long-relief and spot starting.
