Could Josh Heupel be Mizzou’s next play caller?

My first thoughts on the Barry Odom hiring were reserved, unsure how a first year coach would do in the SEC.  Following the hires of Kirby Smart at Georgia and Will Muschamp at South Carolina, the Odom hire at Missouri certainly looks to be on par with those division rivals.

Then, when you see the reaction the players had to Odom’s introduction to the team as the new coach, it eases some of that uncertainty knowing the current players have his back.

My next biggest question was how does Odom fix a bad offense, anchored by a terrible offensive line that didn’t get any favors after Evan Boehm played hurt the entire season?

Now, Odom could be on the verge on scooping up a solid play caller.

KSL.com is reporting that Utah State’s first year offensive coordinator Josh Heupel could be the next Tigers offensive coordinator and may have the inside track.  There are rumors that the 37- year old has the job, but other than reporting with certainty that Heupel’s name is in the conversation, nothing is final as of early Wednesday morning.

Heupel has been with the Aggies just one season after working for the last decade under his coach Bob Stoops at his alma mater, Oklahoma. Heupel was play caller and co-offensive coordinator for the Sooners for four years before Stoops fired him after a disappointing 2014 season.   Heupel was also quarterbacks coach at OU where he oversaw several Heisman hopefuls including Sam Bradford who crushed the Tigers in the Big XII Championship game in 2008.
