Royals need just one more win before they can #TakeTheCrown

October 31, 2015 By Bill Pollock

The Royals rallied for three runs in the eighth inning off relievers Tyler Clippard and closer Juerys Familia to pull off a shocking 5-3 win over the New York Mets to grab a 3-1 lead in the World Series.

Wade Davis pitched the eighth and ninth innings for the save, giving the win to Ryan Madson in relief. Up until tonight’s second blown save for Familia in the World Series, Madson was the only other pitcher to hold that distinction.

For the Royals it was their seventh postseason comeback win this October and 12th in the last two years. The Royals are one victory away from their first title in 30 years.

Edinson Volquez, who pitched Game 1 for Kansas City only hours after his father died, returned from the funeral in the Dominican Republic and will start Game 5 Sunday night. Matt Harvey starts for the Mets.

Mets rookie Michael Conforto hit two home runs. The first came off Royals starter Chris Young who lasted just four innings.  His second came to lead off the fifth off Danny Duffy to put the Mets up 3-1.

Daniel Murphy the hero in the NLDS and NLCS for the Mets turned into the goat defensively.  He let Eric Hosmer’s grounder go under his glove with one out, allowing the tying run to score. Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez followed with RBI singles.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Mets had runners on first and second when Lucas Duda hit a soft liner towards third base. Moustakas ran in to glove it, then noticed Yeonis Cespedes took off running for second. He was easily doubled up to end the game.
