Bruce Windorski of Gillett, Wisconsin, left his home October 17 for what he told his wife was a retreat for veterans. He didn’t return the following Sunday as planned.

She learned there was no veterans’ retreat.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice has issued an alert saying Windorski suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and hasn’t been taking his medication. His wife, Courtney, says he has been “struggling with demons” stemming from the death of his brother, whose helicopter was shot down in Iraq in 2009.

Windorski made an unannounced trip to Iraq and then to Syria earlier this year, apparently trying to find closure.

Cell phone records say Windorski was in Ozark County on October 18.

He is described as 5’11” tall, weighing 230 pounds, with dark hair and brown eyes. He drives a gray 2003 Dodge Durango truck with a Menominee Nation plate, A9658.
