Alex Smith’s 42-yard touchdown pass to Albert Wilson midway through the fourth quarter pulled the Chiefs within 13-10, but Minnesota kicked a field goal and sent the Chiefs (1-5) to their fifth straight loss, 16-10.

After Marcus Peters picked off Teddy Bridgewater with the Chiefs down 13-3, the Vikings came after Smith in an all-out blitz, but a screen pass to Wilson turned into a touchdown with 8:46 left.

Charcandrick West, one of their replacements for the injured Chiefs star Jamaal Charles, lost a fumble down the stretch inside the Vikings 45. The Chiefs had eight penalties enforced for 95 yards.

The Chiefs were missing two injured starters from their front seven, nose tackle Dontari Poe (ankle) and inside linebacker Josh Mauga (Achilles tendon, groin), and DE Mike DiVito departed with a concussion late in the second quarter.

The Chiefs lost wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who walked off the field after diving on a third down pass attempt.

Alex Smith went 22/37 for 282 yards with a TD.

The Vikings scored on a field goal in the first quarter and Bridgewater connected with tight end Kyle Rudolph for a 10-0 lead before halftime.
