Royals join Cardinals as best two teams in baseball. Each plays Wild Card winner. Here’s the playoff breakdown

The Kansas City Royals finished the regular season with a five-game win streak to capture the best record in the American League and secure home field advantage as long as they keep winning.

At 95-67, the Royals will face the winner of the Houston-New York Yankees one game Wild Card.

The Astros lost 5-3 to Arizona and will now travel to play the Yankees on Tuesday, October 6th.

The Cubs play at Pittsburgh on Wednesday, October 7th.

The winner of Houston-New York travels to Kansas City to start their best-of-five divisional series on Thursday, October 8th.

The winner of Chicago-Pittsburgh travels to St. Louis to start their series on Friday, October 9th.

In the other American League matchup, division winners Texas plays at Toronto on Friday.  In the other National League matchup, the Mets play the Dodgers in Los Angeles, also on Friday.
