Homers doom Guthrie as Royals are pounded by the Mariners

Robinson Cano hit two home runs and drove in four as the Mariners rocked the Royals 11-2 to open a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium.

Seattle used a seven-run third inning to do in Kansas City. Kyle Seager, Brad Miller and Jesus Montero all hit homers. Hisashi Iwakuma struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings to grab his ninth victory. The M’s have won four of five.

Alcides Escobar had three hits and an RBI in the loss. Jeremy Guthrie didn’t make it out of the third inning, giving up eight earned runs on nine hits and fell to 8-and-8. Kansas City is 7-and-13 in September.
