The Governor’s Cup is awarded to the winner of the Chiefs-Rams preseason matchup.  Our two Missouri teams have played in the preseason 15 times in the last 20 years, and St. Louis has won nine of those games.  However, on Thursday night the Chiefs made it two in a row in this game, beating the Rams 24-17.

The Rams jumped out to a 14-7 first quarter lead after Nick Foles was picked off on the first series of the game.  Safety Daniel Sorensen intercepted Foles and returned it 26 yards to set up the offense on the eight-yard line. Chase Daniel, starting at quarterback for the Chiefs, handed off twice to give KC the quick 7-0 lead.  The Rams drove down on their next series to tie the game and Daniel threw his first interception of the preseason, a 24-yard pick and score by STL’s Cody Davis.

Daniel threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Chris Conley in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14.  Daniel finished the night with 117 yards passing, while going 16 of 20.

Carlos Santos gave the Chiefs the lead with a 23 yard field goal and Greg Zuerlein tied it for the Rams with a 57 yarder as the half closed out.

Chiefs QB Aaron Murray threw a third quarter touchdown to cap the scoring.

The Chiefs finished the preseason with a perfect 4-0 record for the first time since the NFL went to just four preseason games in 1978.  The Chiefs went undefeated, 6-0 in 1969 and that season went on to win Super Bowl IV vs. the Minnesota Vikings.

Rosters need to be set at 53 by Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.  Check back at Missourinet.com for the complete list of cuts for both the Chiefs and Rams.
