Jeff Fisher and Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett decided to end Tuesday’s practice early after the teams got into two fights on consecutive plays late in their scrimmage. One of the brawls started after former Missouri Tiger Andrew Gachkar mixed it up with center Demetrius Rhaney. Rams’ Jared Cook, Tre Mason, Tavon Austin were involved in the first fight.
In the second brawl, Rams cornerback Imoan Claiborne hit Dez Bryant, who wasn’t wearing a helmet. Injured running Todd Gurley even jumped into the fray, which came one play later and lasted a few minutes.
“There is no excuse for it. You can’t blame it on anybody. It just happened. Fortunately nobody got hurt,” said Fisher after the scrimmage, who also apologized for the way things got out of hand.
The Rams did not practice early in the day by themselves, opting to rest after the team arrived in California following their preseason game at Oakland, which included a return flight to St. Louis, before heading back out west. The Rams were scheduled to have the field to themselves on Wednesday, but Fisher cancelled that practice as well and the team will head back to Missouri earlier than expected.
The Rams play Sunday evening in Tennessee.
