INJURY UPDATES:

Jason Heyward made his first start of the year in center, but it didn’t last long.  He was taken out after two innings with left hamstring tightness. Mike Matheny said Heyward was undergoing tests after being unable to get the hamstring loose.

Matt Adams (quad) will head to Florida to begin baseball activity and could begin a rehab assignment soon after that.  It was feared Adams would be lost for the year when he got hurt on May 26th.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Randal Grichuk on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain today.  Tommy Pham has been recalled from Memphis (AAA).  Grichuk has a .284 batting average with 44 RBI and 15 home runs in 85 games, playing mostly in center.

Grichuk left Sunday’s game after the 7th inning with right elbow discomfort.  Grichuk’s 43 extra-base hits rank first among all MLB rookies, with his 15 home runs tied for third among rookies.

Pham started 10 games and appeared in 13 during July (7/3-19) for St. Louis and batted .182 (4 doubles, HR, 3RBI).
