Matt Boyd, making his Detroit debut after coming over from Toronto in a trade for David Price, allowed one run on seven hits with no walks over his career best, seven innings. The Royals failed to support a solid outing from their recent acquisition, Johnny Cueto, as Detroit ties up the series with a 2-1 win on Wednesday night.
Cueto allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings, while he walked two and struck out two.
“That’s part of the game,” Cueto said through an interpreter. “I know that I just have to do my job and my team will take care of the rest.”
Triples provided the run scoring in this game. Detroit took a 1-0 lead when Anthony Gose tripled over Lorenzo Cain’s head with two outs in the third. The Royals tied when Kendrys Morales hit just the fifth triple of his career, scoring Eric Hosmer in the fourth with two outs. Ian Kinsler, the former Mizzou star, tripled to lead off the bottom of the fourth and scored on a ground out from Victor Martinez.
