The Kansas City Royals have returned right-handed pitcher Yordano Ventura from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the disabled list.  He will start this afternoon’s 1:10 game against the Tampa Bay Rays.  In a corresponding roster move, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks to Triple-A after last night’s game.  The club also recalled left-handed pitcher Brandon Finnegan from Omaha and placed outfielder Alex Gordon on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin muscle.

Ventura returns from his rehab assignment to make his first start since going on the 15-day DL on June 19 with ulnar neuritis, an inflammation of the nerve in the arm that caused numbness in his right hand. The right-hander is 3-6 with a 4.68 ERA over 67 1/3 innings. He is 2-3 at home this season.
