A man imprisoned for murdering and dismembering a Marshall woman last year has died.

Joseph Arbeiter

67-year-old Joseph Arbeiter of Sedalia pleaded guilty in December to several crimes including first-degree murder for killing 35-year-old Mandy Black, whose remains were found in several shallow graves in May, 2014. He was serving life without parole for that and crimes committed against a neighbor in an attack in April, 2014.

Arbeiter had gone to prison before for murdering a mother of two in 1963 when he was 15. His life sentence for that crime was overturned because of the way the confession from the then-juvenile was taken by police.

The Corrections Department said he died of apparent natural causes in a Columbia hospital.
