David Ortiz blasted a 456-foot home run , his 476th of his career, passing Stan Musial and Willie Stargell into 28th place on the career home run list. Big Papi and the Boston Red Sox had 13 extra-base hits in a 13-2 win over the Royals.
Hanley Ramirez hit his 15th homer and Mookie Betts also went deep for the Red Sox, who set a season high for runs. Xander Bogaerts had three doubles. Ortiz homered leading off the fourth off Chris Young.
The Royals starter gave up seven runs on three homers, four doubles and three walks in 4.2 innings.
The Royals broke the shutout with Lorenzo Cain’s two-run triple with two outs in the ninth.
