Torii Hunter

Torii Hunter and manager Paul Molitor argue with home plate umpire Mark Ripperger

Alex Gordon hit a three-run homer and to back Edinson Volquez who went seven innings as the Royals rolled to a 7-2 win over the Twins on Wednesday night to complete a three-game sweep at Target Field. The Royals came into the series trailing by one-game in the AL Central, and left Minnesota up by two games. The Royals came into this series having lost nine of 12. Gordon’s homer, his seventh, capped a four-run first for the Royals off starter and former Mizzou star Kyle Gibson.

Frustration set in for the Twins in the eighth inning when Torii Hunter was called out on strikes on a 95 mph fast from Luke Hochevar over the outside part of the plate.  Hunter had enough with the calls from home plate umpire Mark Ripperger and after getting tossed, decided to leave a good portion of his clothes and equipment on the field.

Hunter threw wristbands, batting gloves, his jersey!  Oh yeah, this was a major league hissy-fit!

There’s no I in team, but there are two in Torii and it was all about him last night.
