Sheriff’s Department Captain Derek Walrod told reporters Thursday a surveyor found the remains on private property.

“At this point we don’t have any idea on the gender, age, time of death or cause of death,” Walrod said. “We are treating it as a suspicious death because it was located in a remote location.”

Walrod described the location as, “A rural, brushy area that has a wood line and grass and everything. It is very difficult terrain for us to locate items in.”

Investigators are still searching about five acres for more evidence. The remains have been sent to the State Highway Patrol’s crime lab.
