The Detroit Tigers remained a game behind the Royals after pounding out 17-hits in a 10-4 win over the Cardinals. I mentioned on my Missourinet sports report on Friday afternoon how Miguel Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Yeonis Cespedes were coming into this series with just as many home runs as a half dozen Cardinals regulars. Each of the Tigers three power hitters went deep.
Cespedes hit his fifth homer off Carlos Martinez (3-2). Cabrera hit his 399th career homer and third in two games in the seventh inning off Mitch Harris, and Martinez followed with his eighth homer to make it 5-0. Jhonny Peralta and Jason Heyward went deep for the Cardinals. Matt Holliday, 33rd straight game he’s reached base.
Tyler Lyons makes his third start of the season on Saturday and it may be his last chance.. He’s 0-3 with a 6.81 ERA in 10 career games at home, including six starts. Help for the rotation may be on the way via Springfield. Jaime Garcia (shoulder) made his second rehab start, allowing two earned runs in six innings with six strikeouts.
