Cardinals starter John Lackey through six scoreless innings and entered with seventh with a 1-0 lead, but the Philadelphia Phillies broke through and finally gave Cole Hamels some run support as they topped St. Louis 4-1.
Philadelphia scored their runs by setting the table with two singles, a fielder’s choice and sacrifice bunt by Hamels that put runners on second and third with one out.  Ben Revere’s opposite double blooped into shallow left kicking up chalk to put Philadelphia up 2-1. Odubel Herrera followed with an RBI single, for a 3-1 lead off Lackey.
Carlos Ruiz doubled in the eighth against Matt Belisle and scored on a groundout by Darin Ruf.
The Cardinals got their only run in the third, when their three hottest hitters, Matt Carpenter, Jhonny Peralta and Matt Holliday singled in succession with two outs.  That was all Hamels would allow as he threw seven innings, registering nine strikeouts.  In total, St. Louis whiffed 13 times on the night and were held to five hits.
