Governor Nixon to name Missouri auditor today

April 14, 2015 By Mike Lear

Governor Jay Nixon (D) will name today the person who will serve as Missouri’s auditor for the rest of the four-year term that began in January.

Tom Schweich

Nixon appointee John Watson has been serving as auditor since February 27 after Auditor Tom Schweich fatally shot himself at his home in Clayton. Watson, formerly a Nixon staffer, was appointed to run the office only until someone could be named to fill the remainder of the term.

Schweich, a Republican, was unopposed in 2014 in his bid for a second term.

Nixon will name the new state auditor at 2 this afternoon at the State Capitol.
