Adam Wainwright (1-1) gave up five runs, three earned, in seven innings.  Kolten Wong made two errors and the offense couldn’t cash in on five walks from Milwaukee starter Matt Garza as the Cardinals lose their home opener 5-4.

Jean Segura doubled past right fielder Jason Heyward, who took a bad angle on the ball, and scored Scooter Gennett’s run-scoring groundout for a 2-0 lead in the second.  Milwaukee scored an unearned run after a Wong error in the first.

Carlos Gomez extended the lead to 4-2 in the seventh after the Cardinals tied it up and later scored on Jonathan Lucroy’s infield hit combined with Wong’s wild throw to first.

Garza allowed two runs, one earned, in 5.2 innings to win for the first time in six career starts in St. Louis. He entered 0-2 with a 6.95 ERA.
